Toyota launched the Yaris sedan in India on April 25 following its debut at the 2018 Auto Expo in February. Sales data for the month of April 2018 has revealed that 1,585 units of the Toyota Yaris were shipped to dealers last month.
The Yaris is yet to witness a full month on sale, which is why its sales performance can't be judged on the statistics available. Retail sales in the coming months will be a more conclusive reflection of the Indian car buyers' response to the C-segment sedan.
Rivals of the Toyota Yaris include Maruti Ciaz, Honda City, Hyundai Verna, VW Vento, and Skoda Rapid. Among these, the Ciaz emerged as the segment leader clocking sales of 5,116 units in April, followed by the Verna (4,077) and City (3,366). The VW Vento and Skoda Rapid could manage only triple-digit sales at 466 and 810 units respectively.

The Toyota Yaris is priced between INR 8.75 lakhs and INR 14.07 lakhs (ex-showroom India). These prices are introductory. It is offered with only a 1.5 L petrol engine with manual and automatic transmission choices. The lack of a diesel engine option means it would find it hard to challenge for the top spot on the sales charts.
