Skoda showcased the Skoda Vision X concept at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show earlier this month. IAB’s automotive illustrator Shoeb Kalania has created a speculative rendering of its production version.

The Skoda Vision X concept follows the "what you see is what you get" principle and this means that the design won't change extensively during its transition from concept to production form.

The Skoda Vision X concept’s production version is referred to as the Skoda Polar by several media outlets. However, Skoda’s nomenclature for SUVs suggests that the name may actually start with the letter ‘K’. The production version’s exterior design won’t differ much from that of the concept version. The Skoda Polar will slot in as the entry-level SUV in the company’s line-up.

Like the VW T-Roc and Seat Arona, the Skoda Polar will ride on the MQB A0 platform - a first for Skoda. It will likely measure around 4.3 metres in length, 1.8 metres in width and 1.5 metres in height. Its wheelbase should span a length of around 2.6 metres. Like the VW T-Roc LWB, a Skoda Polar LWB with more space for the rear-seat passengers is likely, relevant for markets like India and China.

Skoda may offer the Skoda Polar with TSI turbocharged petrol, MPI naturally aspirated petrol and TDI turbocharged diesel engines having displacements ranging from 1.0- to 1.6-litre and maximum power outputs ranging from 95 PS to 150 PS. The company may keep it strictly a front-wheel drive vehicle.

The Skoda Polar will arrive in Europe sometime in 2019. Its Indian launch will likely take place only in 2020 or later, as the first locally manufactured MQB platform-based model. It will compete with the likes of Hyundai Creta in our market.
