The VW Polo and VW Ameo’s 1.2-litre petrol engine will be discontinued in India. While there is no timeline in sight, the MotorOctane report says Volkswagen will replace it with a 1.0-litre petrol engine.
The 1.2-litre MPI naturally aspirated three-cylinder petrol engine employed in the VW Polo and VW Ameo produces 75 PS at 5,400 rpm and 110 Nm of torque at 3,750 rpm. According to the report, the 1.0-litre naturally aspirated three-cylinder petrol replacing this engine will produce about 76 bhp and 95 Nm of torque. Like the outgoing engine, it will send power to the wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission.
The VW Polo and VW Ameo equipped with the 1.2-litre petrol engine have a fuel economy rating (ARAI) of 16.47 km/l and 17.83 km/l respectively. The 1.0-litre petrol engine will increase the compact car family's fuel economy by about 2 km/l to 18.5 km/l (VW Polo)/20 km/l (VW Ameo). Prices will remain the same post the engine swap, as per the report. The VW Polo 1.2 L petrol and VW Ameo 1.2 L petrol’s prices start at INR 5,41,800*/INR 5,20,200* respectively.
