Mahindra Scorpio & XUV500 could gain new BS 6 compliant 2.0 L diesel engine - Report

A report published by MoneyControl states that Mahindra will be rolling out a new 2 L diesel engine that meets BS 6 emission norms. The engine will arrive before the BS 6 regulations are enforced April 2020 onwards.

Products like the Scorpio and XUV500 are likley to gain a new BS 6 compliant 2.0 L diesel engine.

According to the report, the new engine will be lighter and more fuel efficient and promises lower NVH levels as well. The Mahindra Scorpio and Mahindra XUV500 are likely to employ this new engine upon its rollout. Both vehicles currently feature the 2.2 L mHawk diesel engine. In the Scorpio's case, the peak power and torque figures stand at 120 BHP/140 BHP and 280 Nm/320 Nm respectively depending on the trim. The Mahindra XUV500 has a max power and torque rating of 140 BHP and 320 Nm respectively, but those figures will go up with the arrival of the facelift.

The 2.2 L mHawk diesel unit also powers the Xylo and the TUV300 Plus. The former, according to the same report, will be axed before the new safety and emissions regulations kick in owing to its poor performance in the passenger vehicle market.

The current 2.2 L mHawk diesel engine will be replaced by an all-new 2.0 L unit before the BS 6 emission norms kick in April 2020 onwards.

Mahindra recently confirmed that it will launch four new products in India over the course of the 2018-19 fiscal year. Kicking off proceedings will be the U321 MPV, followed by the SsangYong Tivoli based S201, the Mahindra badged SsangYong Rexton, and possibly, the Mahindra e-KUV100.
