Chinese-owned British brand MG will enter the Indian automobile market this year. A new report from The Economic Times suggests that the company may introduce the MG ZS as its first model.

The MG ZS will compete with the Hyundai Creta in India.

The report says that MG may enter India with a Hyundai Creta rival but mentions MG GS as that model. However, the MG ZS is the proper Hyundai Creta competitor, and so, we think it is the MG ZS that is likely to arrive first.

The MG ZS arrived in late 2016 and is the company’s latest SUV. It measures 4,314 mm in length, 1,809 mm in width and 1,648 mm in height. It has a 2,585 mm wheelbase. MG offers it with a 1.5 L naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 1.0 L turbocharged petrol engine. The 1.5 L engine produces 120 PS and 150 Nm of torque and is coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed automatic transmission. The 1.0 L engine develops 125 PS and 170 Nm of torque and is linked to a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The MG GS arrived in early 2015 and received a facelift towards the end of 2016. It is a C-SUV competing with the likes of Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson, Mazda CX-5, Renault Kadjar and Nissan Qashqai. The MG GS is 4,500 mm long, 1,855 mm wide and 1,699 mm tall. It has a 2,650 mm wheelbase.

MG offers the GS with 1.5 and 2.0 L turbocharged petrol engines. The 1.5 L engine is tuned to deliver 168 PS and 250 Nm of torque, while the 2.0L engine puts out 220 PS and 350 Nm of torque. The smaller engine is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, while the bigger engine sends drive via a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
