Ford has already unveiled the Euro-spec 2018 Figo (2018 Ford Ka) and has been testing it in India as well. A new report from Autocar India says that the company will launch the 2018 Ford Figo in India in October this year.
The Ford Figo will gain some minor design changes and a few mechanical changes with its mid-cycle refresh. It will feature a more proportionate hexagonal front grille, possibly with a chrome mesh pattern, restyled bumpers with C-shaped chrome detail at the front and C-shaped moulding at the rear. There are also tweaked headlamp and tail lamp graphics. Ford may offer new alloy wheels as well.
There’s no word on the continuity of the S (Sports Edition) variant that is equipped with 15-inch alloy wheels, sportier grille and lamps, a reworked suspension and dual-tone exterior colour scheme among other features.
The 2018 Ford Figo will have some interior revisions as well. It will feature a partially redesigned centre console that makes the interior look less cluttered. Ford will introduce the SYNC 3 infotainment system with a tablet-inspired 6.5-inch colour touchscreen. The new infotainment system will have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Expect the dashboard to be identical to the Ford Freestyle.
Customers can look forward to trim and upholstery changes as well. The new model may offer more convenience features like automatic headlamps and rain-sensing wipers. Standard dual-front airbags and ABS with EBD and reverse parking sensors and rear-view camera should make the car safer.
The current Ford Figo is available with a 1.2L Ti-VCT petrol engine paired with a 5-speed manual transmission, a 1.5L TDCi diesel engine coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission and a 1.5L Ti-VCT petrol engine that sends power to the wheels via a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
With the mid-cycle refresh, Ford will swap the 1.2L Ti-VCT four-cylinder petrol engine with a new 1.2-litre Ti-VCT three-cylinder petrol engine that was introduced in the Ford Freestyle. The new engine is from the Dragon engine family and it produces 96 PS at 6,500 rpm and 120 Nm of torque at 4,250 rpm. This petrol engine and the diesel engine will likely come paired with an all-new 5-speed manual transmission.
The 1.5L Ti-VCT four-cylinder petrol engine may get replaced by a detuned version of the Ford EcoSport’s 1.5L Ti-VCT three-cylinder petrol engine, which is also from the Dragon engine family. It will likely send power to the wheels via a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
