Following its launch in Japan earlier this month, the 2018 Nissan Leaf has made its motor show debut in Tokyo today. It's on sale at 3,150,360 yen.
It is 4,480 mm long, 1,790 mm wide and 1,540 mm tall. Compared to the popular 1st gen EV, the all-new Leaf is 35 mm longer, 20 mm wider and 10 mm lower. The wheelbase, at 2,700 mm long, is the same as before. However, Nissan has reduced the ground clearance by 10 mm to 150 mm.
Exterior styling is also a significant improvement from the outgoing car, featuring the characteristic Nissan touchers like “boomerang” light signature, the V-Motion grille and floating roof. It borrows inspiration from the Nissan IDS concept.
The interior is familiar to anybody acquainted with Nissan's latest generation of vehicles. It features a leather-wrapped steering wheel, climate control panel and air vents finished in a mix of matte and gloss black, 7-inch full-colour driver information display, 7-inch NissanConnect infotainment system with navigation and Apple CarPlay, 7-speaker BOSE sound system, and an all-new ProPILOT single-lane autonomous driving technology.
Powering the new Leaf is the same EM57 electric motor, although it has been upsized to output 150 PS (+41 PS) and 320 Nm (+66 Nm) of torque. Delivering the juice is a 40 kWh battery pack, which provides a driving range (JC08) of 400 km. It takes 16 hours/8 hours to charge using a 3 kW/6 kW charger. Also supported is quick charging, which takes only 40 minutes to charge the battery to 80 percent.
