The second-gen Audi A7’s exterior has leaked ahead of its confirmed world premiere later this year. IAB has managed to obtain images of the 2018 Audi A7’s scale model in different colours.
Seen in the images here, are the 2018 Audi A7 Sportback’s scale models in Myth black (above) and Glacier White (below) colours. The executive 4-door coupe has undergone an evolutionary redesign for its second generation. Up front, influence of the fifth-gen Audi A8, and thus the Audi prologue concept, is evident with the larger Singleframe and the new boxy headlamps. The bonnet has more crease lines now for a more interesting design. As before, the central air intake has a notably small footprint.
The 2018 Audi A7’s profile is characterised with redesigned door mirrors, even more sleeker and sharper greenhouse and reworked haunches. At the rear, the second generation model will feature full-width tail lights like the latest Audi A8. It will ride on the MLB-Evo platform. Audi reduced the usage of aluminum from 92% to 58% in the A8 with the latest redesign, and increased the usage of steel from 8% to 40.5%. Similarly, in the A7’s structure, the usage of steel could increase significantly, mostly at the sacrifice of aluminium.
Audi could offer the next-gen Audi A7 with a variety of turbocharged petrol and diesel engines. The pool may include 2.0-litre inline-four cylinder and 3.0-litre V6 TFSI petrol and TDI diesel units. As for the 2018 Audi S7, reports suggest that Audi will go for the 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine from the Porsche Panamera 4S. The 2018 Audi RS 7 is said to employ the Porsche Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid’s plug-in powertrain consisting of a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine and an electric motor.
