Significant number of changes inside an evolutionary exterior.

Suzuki Motor Co had unveiled the fourth generation 2017 Suzuki Swift in Japan yesterday. It will go on sale in January 4 in Japan, while the Euro-spec model will debut at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show.

Here's a brief pictorial comparison between new Swift and the outgoing model.

2017 Suzuki Swift Design

As the Swift is one of Suzuki's best selling vehicles worldwide, it's not surprising that product planners instructed the design team to keep the design familiar. Yet, there are elements borrowed from the Suzuki Baleno as well as unique highlights that collectively give it a fresh look.

Compared to the outgoing model, the new Swift is 10 mm shorter in overall length, 10 mm shorter in height and has a 20 mm longer wheelbase, while width is identical.

The interior has more significant changes than the exterior; offering a premium yet sporty cabin experience. It's also simpler, with far fewer buttons and dials. The fatter centre console is taken up by the 7 inch touchscreen system with Apple CarPlay, and round dials with displays for the climate control system.

2017 Suzuki Swift Engine & Gearbox

The new Swift retains the K12C 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that develops 91 PS (3 PS less powerful) and 118 Nm of torque. There’s a mild-hybrid variant which combines the same 1.2 petrol engine with a WA05A electric motor that generates 3.1 PS and 50 Nm. The two variants can be had with a 5-speed manual or CVT.

The newest addition to the engine lineup is, unsurprisingly, the K10C 1.0-litre three-cylinder Boosterjet (turbocharged) petrol engine that produces 102 PS and 150 Nm. It's only available with a 6-speed automatic.
