The KTM Duke 390 was originally introduced at EICMA 2012 and launched in India in June 2013. The Duke 390 will enter its second generation this year, reportedly. The new generation KTM Duke 390 was recently spied nearly fully undisguised at Bajaj Auto’s Chakan plant in Maharashtra. Here's how the second generation Duke is different from the first generation Duke.
Starting with the design, the 2017 KTM Duke 390 seems to have largely the same overall shape but gets a design & styling makeover extensive enough to make it immediately recognizable as a new generation model. Noteworthy changes include new twin headlamps, redesigned fuel tank with extensions ahead of the the upside-down front fork, new switchgear and tweaked frame.
Getting to the mechanicals, the 2017 KTM Duke 390 is expected to be powered by an updated version of the 373.2 cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine from the first generation KTM Duke 390. Modifications will likely include improved power and torque delivery and more control on their delivery with incorporation of an advanced ride-by-wire technology. The updated engine is said to get a second counter-balancer shaft also, which will help reduce the vibrations coming from the motor. Updated ECU and improved cooling system round-up the reported mechanical changes.
