A thoroughly facelifted version of the GL with a new name.
Mercedes India will launch the Mercedes GLS on May 18 in the country. Like the outgoing model, the Mercedes GL, it will be assembled in Chakan, Pune.
The GLS is basically a thoroughly facelifted version of the GL, but with a new name. Although it retains the GL's shape, the GLS gets new headlights with Multibeam LED lighting and DRLs, revised grille, updated taillight graphics and re-profiled bumpers with a new diffuser.
The interior of the GLS has also been facelifted with new materials and equipment. There are redesigned buttons, instrument cluster with Media Display, Nappa leather-wrapped 3-spoke multifunction steering wheel, and an updated COMAND infotainment system with a touchpad on the floor console.

The most sought after variant will be the Mercedes GLS 350d (pictured from the Bangkok International Motor Show 2016), which is powered by a 3.0-liter V-6 turbodiesel engine that produces 258 hp and 620 Nm of torque. The only significant upgrade is the 9G-TRONIC 9-speed automatic gearbox equipped as standard, along with a 4MATIC AWD system and an upgraded AIRMATIC air suspension system.
