30,000 units initially planned for annual production.
According to ET Auto, Toyota Kirloskar will launch the next generation 2016 Toyota Fortuner in the Indian market during the festive season of 2016, and is planning to produce 30,000 units of the new SUV annually, which equates to 2500 units per month.
Toyota Motor Corporation has allocated enough funds for Toyota Kirloskar to invest on a new engine plant and future products such as the 2016 Toyota Fortuner, 2016 Toyota Innova, and a mid-size sedan. The company is betting on the new Fortuner and Innova to increase their plant capacity utilization, which is currently working at 50 percent.
The engine plant in question will be located in Jigani, Karnataka, and will produce Toyota's new GD range of diesel engines for their future products, which include the downsized 2.4- and 2.8-liter motors.
In Thailand, the 2016 Toyota Fortuner is powered by the latter engine, which is available in two power states: 150 PS/400 Nm and 177 PS/450 Nm. Tranmission options include a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic, while a 4WD system will be exclusive to the top spec model.
