Toyota has revealed the second generation 2016 Fortuner in Australia and Thailand simultaneously. The brand has also confirmed engine options and features for the new Fortuner.

Following are the engine options of the new Fortuner for the Thai market:
- 2.8L diesel engine with 177 PS at 3,400 rpm and 450 Nm of torque at 1,600-2,400 rpm (420 Nm for MT)
- 2.4L diesel engine with 150 PS at 3,400 rpm and 400 Nm of torque at 1,600-2,000 rpm
- 2.7L petrol engine with 166 PS at 5,200 rpm and 245 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm
The 2.8L diesel engine is expected to achieve 12.5 km/l, though the official figure is yet to be revealed. The SUV rides on an improved double wishbone suspension up front and a five-link coil spring suspension at the rear.
Toyota has confirmed that the 2016 Fortuner will get Bi-Beam LED headlights, a DVD player with a touchscreen and Toyota Link connectivity, USB and AUX, automatic AC, 8-way power adjustable driver's seat, leather wrapped multifunction steering wheel, push button start, paddle shifters, new Optitron instrument cluster, a TFT Multi-information display, one-touch folding for second row seats, 18-inch alloys, electric tailgate, LED taillights and a cooled glovebox.
Safety features include Hill Start Assist Control, TSC (Trailer Sway Control), TCS, ESC, ABS, BA, EBD, reverse camera and parking sensors, 7 airbags and a smart key with an engine immobilizer system. Official images of the interior are yet to be released.
