Powered by an all-new 1.4-liter Ecotec engine.
GM today took the wraps off the all-new 2016 Chevrolet Spark (Chevrolet Beat in India) at the Seoul Motor Show 2015. The new Spark will be offered in more than 40 markets across the world, but according to sources, India will get a different version based on the Amber platform.
Without divulging too many details, GM says that the new Spark is built on an all-new architecture for "sophisticated driving experience". The hatchback has a longer wheelbase over its predecessor for enhanced interior comfort. At the same time, to reduce aerodynamic drag, designers have reduced the height by 40 mm.
Powering the new Spark is an all-new 1.4-liter inline four-cylinder Ecotec gasoline engine which develops an estimated 98 hp. Paired to 5-speed manual and CVT gearboxes, the new Spark is claimed to return 40 mpg (17 km/l) with the latter on a highway.
GM has upped the safety quotient of the new Spark by offering features such as Side Blind Spot Alert, Lane Departure Warning and Forward Collision Alert. A rear view camera will be offered as part of the standard equipment. Inside, a 7-inch Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system is on offer.
The new Spark will go on sale in the United States in the fourth quarter of 2015. The hatchback will be built from "globally sourced" parts at GM's manufacturing facility in Changwon, South Korea.
