Ashwin Ram N P, Ashwin is a guy with a slightly unorthodox perception of everything. His struggle to choose a career path, between art and automotive engineering, has landed him in the field of auto journalism, where he has paved way for himself to practise both.
First launch confirmed at Auto Expo 2016.
In an interview with Mr. Juan Villegas, the Global Director for Business Development, UM International LLC, IndianAutosBlog has learnt the brand’s plans for India that will be set in motion from the Auto Expo 2016.
UM International has scooters, cruisers, sports bikes and dual-purpose motorcycles in its portfolio which are powered by a family of engines ranging from 100 cc to 350 cc. For India, the brand plans to enter via the cruiser segment but not venture into any other segment at least for the first few years of operation. Mr. Villegas mentioned that their products will create a new category in the Indian market which is the ‘real american cruiser segment’. He said that the company will take advantage of this segment and its price point which is non-existent in the sub-continent.
UM Motorcycles will present three models at the Auto Expo 2016 including two variants of the Renegade Commando. The third model to be presented at the show would be the Renegade Sport.
UM Renegade is the only family of cruisers the company has and includes the Renegade Limited, the Renegade Commando, the Renegade Sport and the Renegade Duty. Eventually, all models would be available in the country. The Renegade cruisers are expected to be priced between INR 1-1.5 lakhs (ex-showroom).
Their product strategy for India has three launches per year with an interval of six months between the launches. It would either be a new model introduction or a renovated version of an existing motorcycle.
Mr. Villegas further said that in the second phase of operations, the company might introduce sports bikes.
