The 2016 VW Tiguan has publicly premiered at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA 2015). The next generation model features a brand new design encompassing an evolved range of engines and new equipment.
The all-new VW Tiguan measures 70 mm longer, 30.5 mm wider, 33 mm taller and 76 mm longer in wheelbase than the outgoing version. It is 4,485 mm in length, 1,839 mm in width, 1633 mm in height and has a 2,682 mm wheelbase. Based on the MQB platform, the 2016 Tiguan weighs at least 110 pounds (50 kg) lighter than the PQ35 platform-based predecessor.
Aligning to the current design philosophy of Volkswagen cars, the 2015 Tiguan features a triple-slat chrome front grille flanked by slightly raked LED headlights, LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL) within the headlamp cluster, 18-inch diamond cut alloy wheels, silver-finished roof rails, lower-body cladding, roof spoiler, LED tail lamps and twin tailpipes finished in chrome.
The features offered in the all-new Tiguan include a standard 5-inch display for infotainment system, an optional infotainment system with 8-inch screen, an optional 12.3-inch Active Info display (seen in 2015 Volkswagen Passat), triple-zone automatic climate control dubbed Pure Air Climatronic, panoramic sunroof, adaptive cruise control (ACC), City Emergency Braking and Pedestrian Monitoring system, Automatic Post-Collision Braking System, Lane Assist departure warning system, Side Assist (lane-changing assistant), Pre-Crash proactive occupant protection, Area View (360 degree view), and 7 airbags (including a driver knee airbag).
A total of 8 engines (4 petrol and 4 diesel) are announced for the 2016 VW Tiguan, all of which are turbo units and Euro 6 compliant. All engines feature stop-start and battery regeneration systems.
