Toyota revealed the second generation of the ladder-frame based Toyota Fortuner SUV in Thailand today. Following its global reveal, a dealership has kept the new Toyota Fortuner on the showroom floor for prospective customers to experience. Below are the first images of the Toyota Fortuner in the metal post-unveil.
Gone are the utilitarian looks of the outgoing Fortuner for a revolutionary design that instills a fresh new face, and at the same time improving its premium appeal. Exterior highlights include dual LED headlights with LED daytime running lamps and LED taillights, 18-inch alloy wheels, rear spoiler, shark fin antenna, wing mirror integrated turn signals, and an electric tailgate.
Like the exterior, the interior also features an all new design which increases the premium quotient two-fold. It comes with leather upholstery for the seats and dashboard, multifunction 3-spoke steering wheel with paddle shifters, TFT-screen for MID in the new instrument cluster, 8-way electric driver’s seat, 7-inch touchscreen entertainment system with DVD/CD/MP3/Radio/USB/AUX-in/Bluetooth and Navigation, chilled glovebox, automatic climate control, rear AC vents, electrically adjustable door mirrors with power folding function, engine Start/Stop button paired with Smart Key entry, and cruise control.
On the mechanical front, the Toyota Fortuner will offer 2 new diesel engines and one tried-and-tested petrol motor. The diesel engines are part of the new ‘GD’ diesel engine family, which packs a 2.4-liter four-cylinder mill delivering 150 hp and 400 Nm of torque, and a more powerful 2.8-liter diesel engine with 177 hp and 450 Nm of torque. The sole petrol offering is the 2.7-liter four-cylinder VVT-i petrol engine delivering 122 hp and 245 Nm of torque.
Transmission options include a 6-speed manual for the base 2.4 engine and a 6-speed automatic for the rest of the variants. Only the top-end 2.8 V trim gets an AWD system as standard.

The 2016 Toyota Fortuner is priced between 1.199 million to 1.599 million Baht (INR 22.27-29.7 lakhs) in Thailand. For the Indian market, Toyota Kirloskar Motor is expected to launch the new Fortuner next financial year, where it will be assembled at its facility in Bidadi, Karnataka, with CKD kits shipped from Thailand.
