2015 Mahindra Thar (facelift) launched at INR 8.03 lakhs - IAB Report

Gets an auto-engaging rear differential lock.

Mahindra today launched the 2015 Thar (facelift), priced at INR 8.03 lakhs, ex-Showroom, Nasik, for the CRDe variant. The Thar facelift, which gets exterior and interior updates, will be available in select markets with immediate effect, the car maker announced.

There are no changes to the engine which continues to produce 105 bhp.

On the outside, the Thar facelift gets redesigned front and rear bumpers, all-new wheel arches, new side steps, a new canopy and clear lens headlights. Inside, the rugged 4x4 gets a dual-tone dashboard, a new 3-spoke steering wheel and gear knob, new seat upholstery, a 3-pod chrome-ringed instrument cluster, new AC vents, a new windshield demister, a lockable glovebox, new trims for the doors and cupholders.

On the mechanical front, the Thar facelift gets an auto-engaging differential lock for the rear axle, while it soldiers on with the 2.5-liter diesel engine. There are no changes to the engine which continues to produce 105 bhp at 3,800 rpm and 247 Nm of torque between 1,800-2,000 rpm, matched to a 5-speed manual transmission, with high- and low-range ratios.

The Thar CRDe contributes to 30 percent of sales of the nameplate.

An AC with heater is standard on the Thar CRDe. The cosmetic and mechanical changes are exclusive to the CRDe variant, and the DI continues without updates.
