Based on a new platform.
Toyota Motor Thailand (TMT) today staged the world premiere of the all-new 2016 Toyota Hilux Revo, in an event which took place in Bangkok, Thailand. The new generation pickup from Toyota comes with a host of new features and new engine options, several of which are expected to be seen on the 2016 Fortuner and the 2016 Innova as well.
The new Hilux Revo will be available with three engine options - two diesel and one petrol. The petrol engine, a 2.7-liter four-cylinder VVT-i, is carried over from the previous generation Hilux and produces 122 hp and 245 Nm of torque.
The diesel engines however are brand new, from the new ‘GD’ engine family. Starting the range is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder available in states of 150 hp with 343 Nm and 400 Nm of torque. The more powerful 2.8-liter diesel engine makes 177 hp and 420 Nm or 450 Nm of torque, depending on the gearbox chosen (6-speed manual and automatic transmissions are seen on the new Hilux Revo). Toyota claims a 10 percent improvement in fuel efficiency.
On the top-end variant of the Hilux Revo, Toyota is offering a raft of safety features including 7-airbags, ABS, EBD, BA, Trailer Sway Control, VSC, Downhill assist control and Hill Assist control.
Comfort and convenience features include keyless entry with push button start, automatic climate control, rear AC vents, a 7-inch infotainment system, LED headlights and LED daytime running lights.
Toyota confirmed that the eighth generation pickup is based on an all-new platform with improved front and side impact structure to meet stricter crash test norms. Toyota refers to this technology as FIRM (Frame with Integrated Rigidity Mechanism). The weight of the new Hilux Revo has increased due to this.
