Honda has premiered the new sixth-generation City sedan in the Chinese market at the ongoing Auto Shanghai 2015. The subcompact sedan will be built in China by the joint venture of Guangzhou Auto Corporation (GAC) and Honda.
The Chinese-spec Honda City is similar to the one sold in India right now, measuring 4440 mm in length, 1695 mm in width, and 1495 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2600 mm. Based on a new platform, the new car uses the latest family front fascia, large grille, sporty roofline, and extended taillights.
The City will be sold in China with a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder i-VTEC petrol engine that makes 117 bhp and 145 Nm of torque. It is paired to a 6-speed manual or CVT automatic gearbox. The car is likely to be offered in three trims, just like the outgoing City.
The Honda City is sold in different avatars in the Chinese market, including a China-specific stretched-version called the Honda Crider that is positioned between Civic and Accord. The fourth-generation City is also the ‘S1’ under China-only ‘Everus’ marque. It is to be seen whether the new City will replace the existing one or be sold alongside.
Though the pricing of the new City isn’t announced, media reports say it may start from 90,000 Yuan (INR 9.15 lakhs) to compete with the Chinese-spec Hyundai Verna and the Suzuki Alivio (marketed as the Ciaz in India).
