The Tata Bolt will be exported to markets in South Africa and Asia, as told to Indian Autos Blog by Ranjit Yadav, president of Tata's passenger vehicles business. One of those export markets could be Indonesia, where Tata started operations in the second half of last year.
Biswadev Sengupta, the president and director of PT Tata Motors, the Indonesian subsidiary of Tata, told detikoto that he sees "considerable potential" to launch the Bolt in Indonesia.
Tata's passenger vehicles in Indonesia comprise of the Vista, Safari Storme and Aria. The Bolt could be a good addition to this portfolio given that it comes with an all-new turbocharged petrol engine, and that Indonesia is a petrol friendly market.
Powering the Bolt petrol is Tata's new Revotron 1.2-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine. The motor outputs 85 PS @ 5,000 rpm and 140 Nm of torque between 1,750-3,000 rpm and comes paired to a 5-speed manual transmission.
India will get this engine along with the tried-and-tested 1.3-liter Fiat Multijet diesel engine producing 75 PS and 190 Nm of torque. While the Bolt is based on the Vista's X1 platform, its completely redesigned inside and out.
Tata will launch 10 models and 18 variants in Indonesia this year (including commercial vehicles). Sengupta has declined to detail on these new offerings.
