Toyota has launched the third-generation of its hybrid mid-size SUV, the Highlander, at the LA Auto Show. The 2014 Highlander has grown 3 inches in length and 1.5 inches in width compared to the previous version. This has resulted in a 34% increase in cargo space behind the third row.
The Highlander Hybrid’s Hybrid Synergy Drive System along with a 3.5-liter V6 with a high-torque electric drive motor provides for additional power and fuel efficiency. It outputs a healthy 280 bhp.
The model gets MacPherson strut front suspension and a double-wishbone beam rear suspension setup on a set of 19-inch Chromtec alloy wheels. Inside, an eight-inch high resolution display screen with split screen display is paired with 12 JBL Green Edge speakers.
The 2014 Highlander Hybrid will be available in the Hybrid Limited and a new Hybrid Limited Platinum package. The latter adds a driver technology package that includes a pre-collision system with dynamic radar cruise control, lane departure alert with automatic high beam headlights.
The Highlander Hybrid will go on sale in February 2014.
