The facelifted Toyota Sai, which was introduced in Japanese market in late August with a sales target of 2,000 units/month, has been showcased at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show. The updated car gets an aggressive front with redesigned headlights and grille. The styling is sporty at the rear as well, with the car receiving a new bumper and boot lid with full length taillamps. Recycled Resin material is used to make 100 parts of the car such as the grille and underfloor cover.
The facelift also gets new 16-inch alloy wheels and three new exterior colors are in the offing - Red Mica Metallic, Clear Stream Metallic and Grey Mica Metallic.
The interior has also seen revisions, mainly to do with upgrading material quality and modernizing the design. Revised switchgear, a new center console, wood grain trims and metallic accents are seen on the 2014 model. A 10-speaker SD Navigation system with a microSD card slot, USB input and Blu-ray compatibility are optional extras.
The vehicle is powered by a 2.4-liter gasoline engine that generates 150 PS @ 6,000 rpm and 187 Nm @ 4,400 RPM. It is matched to an electric motor that develops a whopping 143 PS and 270 Nm, but the combined power output is restricted to 190 PS. A 'Sports Drive' mode is selectable which sharpens the steering and throttle response.
The 2014 Toyota Sai is priced starting at 3,210,000 yen (20.17 lakh rupees).
