After unveiling the 4 Series Coupe earlier this year, BMW has world premiered the 2014 BMW 4 Series Convertible today, at two different locations - Tokyo and Los Angeles. Since Indian Autos Blog is present at both venues, here is the 4 Series convertible from the 2013 LA Auto Show.
Exterior wise, the 4 Series Convertible gets a three-piece retractable hardtop with a sound absorbing headliner. BMW say that this reduces wind noise by up to 2 dB compared to the older 3 Series Convertible, which the 4 Series replaces.
The roof can retract/move into position in 20 seconds at speeds up to 11 mph (18km/h). Even when you're driving with the roof down, the 4 Convertible is equipped with three temperature neck warmers.
The 4 Series Convertible will be offered with three engine options initially. Powering the base variant is a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine producing 240 bhp, while the top-end petrol is powered by a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder motor churning 300 bhp. The diesel motor is the familiar 2.0-liter four-cylinder outputting 181 bhp.
Transmission options include a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
The 4 Series Convertible is scheduled to reach U.S. dealerships in the first quarter of 2014. Prices start at 49,675 USD (INR 31.03 lakhs) for the 428i and 55,825 USD (INR 34.87 lakhs) for the 435i.
