The Mercedes GLA had its world premiere at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show on September 10th. Even as you read this, crowds throng the Mercedes hall at Messe Frankfurt, to catch a glimpse of the new urban crossover.
Today's news about the GLA deals with its starting price and a special launch 'Edition 1' the manufacturer has just revealed.
Order books for the GLA Class will open in Germany from 29th November with deliveries starting in early 2014. The base GLA 200 would have a starting price of EUR 29,303.75 (INR 24.81 lakhs) and would come with front wheel drive only. The GLA 250 with the Mercedes 4MATIC all wheel drive system would retail at EUR 37,496.9 (INR 31.75 lakhs).
The diesel engined GLA 200 CDI without 4MATIC starts from EUR 32,130 (INR 27.21 lakhs) and should you want the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, another EUR 2165.8 (INR 1.83 lakhs) has to be forked out. Features such as Bi-Xenon headlights, panoramic sunroof, special paint finishes and heated front seats are optional extras.
The GLA Edition 1 would be available for a limited period. It gets an exterior paint in 'zirrusweiß' (Cirrus White), mountain gray metallic, metallic orient brown or gray designo magno mountain. 19-inch AMG alloy wheels, glossy radiator grilles, dual exhausts, Bi-Xenon headlights, aluminium roof rails, chrome bumper protection and 'Edition 1' badges are the exterior highlights.
Interiors get seat covers in a 'nut brown' color, sports pedals in stainless steel and a multifunction steering wheel with perforated grip areas. The Edition 1 package costs an additional EUR 6,307 (INR 5.34 lakhs). The GLA should have its Indian debut next year or by early 2015.
