The 2013 Skoda Octavia was launched in India on October 3rd and within three weeks, Skoda Auto India has received 1,000 bookings for the executive sedan.
Available with three engine options, the third generation Octavia replaced the second generation model which was called 'Laura' in India. Starting the range is a 1.4-liter TSI engine producing 140 PS and 250 Nm of torque, available only with a 6-speed manual transmission.
A more powerful 1.8-liter TSI producing 180 PS is also available, while the diesel Octavia gets its power from a 2.0-liter TDI engine producing 143 PS and 320 Nm of torque. The Octavia range starts from INR 13.95 lakhs and extends up to INR 19.45 lakhs (ex-Showroom, New Delhi).
As is the case with any new product, initial sales and interest levels are bound to be high. We would definitely like to see how the Octavia performs in the months to come, given that its segment has been shrinking over time with certain manufacturers even terming it "non-existent".
Mr. Sudhir Rao, Managing Director, Skoda Auto India said -
The Octavia is the heart of our brand and is our attempt to give customers one of the best offerings in the country. The Octavia will set new benchmarks in space, ride quality and ownership experience. With the new design language the Octavia is a head turner and is a great value proposition for the Indian consumer. We will continue to bring products that redefine segments and ownership experience.
