Speaking to MissMalini.com, VP of Ford's Global Product Design Derrick Kuzak said the Ecosport SUV, showcased as a near-production ready concept at the Delhi Auto Expo last month, will be sold in over 100 markets across the world. Kuzak said the Ecosport, like the Fusion (Mondeo), is an example of a global vehicle.
Having the design, ground clearance and body cladding of an SUV, its footprint is similar to the Fiesta. The EcoSport is the fourth top-hat on the B-Platform after the Fiesta twins and B-Max.
Ford India is working to put the Ecosport into production but they have not announced a launch date. It could be launched around the same time the Fiesta was brought into the market last year (July-August) or they could use the festival season (October-November) to set the ball rolling.
How will India react to a 1-liter petrol engine on an SUV? The Duster, a more popular car that's proved to be a volumes champion in the European market, like an attack dog, will be on to the Ecosport as soon as it lands. Will Ford play the price card?
We can't wait how this battle will unfold.
