Toyota sells two iterations of the Toyota Corolla in China, and the Toyota Levin is second. It's closer to the North American-spec model and aimed at younger buyers with a relatively sportier styling. Here's the Levin from its showcase at Auto China 2016.
Toyota Levin
The Toyota Levin and Toyota Corolla are both priced from 1,07,800 yuan (INR 11,03,394), but the former tops out at 1,49,800 yuan (INR 15,33,289), while the latter goes further up to 1,59,800 yuan (INR 16,35,645) being the more premium offering of the two.
The Toyota Levin is offered with 1.6- and 1.8-litre VVT-i four-cylinder petrol engines. The 1.6-litre engine makes 90 kW (121 hp) and 154 Nm of torque while the bigger, 1.8-litre engine produces 103 kW (138 hp) and 173 Nm of torque. The 1.6-litre engine can be opted with a 5-speed manual gearbox or an S-CVT gearbox while the 1.8-litre engine can be opted with a 6-speed manual gearbox or an S-CVT gearbox.
Toyota Levin HEV
As the name suggests, the Toyota Levin HEV is the hybrid variant of the Toyota Levin with the 'HEV' standing for 'Hybrid Electric Vehicle'. It's available in four grades and priced from 1,39,800 to 1,59,800 yuan (INR 14,30,933 to 16,35,645).
The hybrid variant is driven by a 1.8-litre VVT-i four-cylinder petrol engine which is assisted by an electric motor generating 53 kW (71 hp) and 207 Nm of torque. The 100 kW (134 hp) hybrid powertrain's combustion engine develops 73 kW (98 hp) and 142 Nm of torque, and the energy to power the electric motor comes from 6.5 Ah NiMH batteries. Power is sent to the wheels via an electronically-controlled continuously variable transmission.
