Since the Indian NCAP is nowhere in sight for now, we have to rely on the international crash testing programs to know more about the safety aspect of the cars that are developed for the Indian market.

We were very happy to know that the Mahindra XUV500 scored four stars in Australian NCAP.

Now, another ‘Indian’ car - Toyota Etios - has scored four stars in the Latin NCAP, a crash testing program designed for the Latin American & Caribbean region.

It seems that the Toyota Etios is the only small car to achieve such a high score. To give you a bit of perspective, the score secured by the Toyota Etios is equivalent to the Chevrolet Cruze in Latin NCAP – a car much higher in the value chain.

The Latin NCAP rates the safety of the car on following points:

  • Front impact at 64kph
  • Child protection
  • Seat belt reminders

In Brazil, Toyota wants to pitch the Etios as a Toyota car with good quality, low maintenance, low fuel consumption, good performance, and a good after-sales experience.

Quite surprisingly, Toyota's marketing team is not focusing on safety of the Etios in Brazil at all. Now that they have the NCAP figures in place, Toyota can now add one more USP to the Etios.
