Tata Motors has planned four new launches this festive season, the first of which is already here - the Tiago NRG. Up next, a variant based on the Tigor is scheduled.
There's no all-new product arriving before the Harrier. In Mayank Pareek, President, Tata Motors (PV unit)'s words, that's an INR "2,000 crore-business." Banking on the spurt in demand during the festive season, the company has planned four new launches, all derivatives of existing products, Pareek confirmed at the Tiago NRG's launch.
Pareek told IAB that the company will have something based on the Tigor "shortly, in just 8 weeks." He confirmed that by "something", he wasn't referring to the JTP variant, also arriving this festive season. Readers will recall the Tigor pure electric variant that was showcased at Auto Expo 2018. Another possibility is a special edition, like the Nexon KRAZ, with distinctive styling and additional equipment.
The Tata Tigor was launched in India in March 2017. By the end of the year, cumulative sales stood at 22,775. By March 2018, one year since launch, the figure rose to 30,869 units. Monthly sales dropped below 2,000 units this year for the first time just last month (1,646 units). The sedan has still a long way to go in becoming popular in its segment, with the leading model Maruti Dzire (India's second best-selling car in 2017) outselling it 10X.
The Tata Tigor's prices start at INR 5,05,585* (petrol)/INR 5,94,198* (diesel) and go up to INR 6,65,059* (petrol)/INR 7,36,889* (diesel). The limited-edition Buzz model that was introduced to celebrate the sedan's first anniversary in June is still on sale.
