Power is upped to 156 PS, exclusive to VX trim.
Tata Motors have launched the more-powerful Tata Safari Storme, dubbed the Tata Safari Storme VariCOR 400. It is priced at INR 13.52 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), and is only available in the top-end VX trim.
The main highlight of the VariCOR 400 is underneath the hood. It's powered by the same 2.2-liter four-cylinder diesel engine from the current Storme, but has undergone revision to produce 156 PS at 4,000 rpm and 400 Nm at 1,750-2,500 rpm, which is 6 PS and 80 Nm more than the regular Safari Storme.
Another big change is the new 6-speed manual gearbox and shift-on-the-fly all-wheel drive, while lower variants continue to be paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
A leaked presentation slide has revealed that the Safari Storme VariCOR 400 is capable of accelerating from 0-60 km/h in 5.2 seconds and 0-100 km/h in 12.8 seconds, which is slightly faster than the standard Varicor timings: 0-60 km/h in 5.7 seconds and 0-100 km/h in 13.8 seconds.
Other than the VariCOR 400 badging on the exterior, there are no further changes to differentiate it from the regular model. It continues offering features such as a new audio system with USB, Bluetooth and Aux connectivity, rear parking sensors, steering-mounted controls and a rear passenger centre arm rest.
