Tata Motors is working on a new SUV that we've known as the 'Tata Q501' until now. According to a report from Autocar India, this model is codenamed 'Tata H5' and it will debut in near-production form at the Auto Expo 2018 that opens Feb 7.
The Tata H5 will ride on the Land Rover Discovery Sport's platform. Tata Motors will offer it in 5- and 7-seat versions. Both versions are said to have a completely different design and feel. They will share FCA's 2.0-litre MultiJet II turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine in different tunings. This engine will develop a maximum power of 140 hp in the 5-seat version and 170 hp in the 7-seat version.
The 2.0-litre diesel engine is already locally produced for the Jeep Compass, and that should help Tata Motors keep the pricing aggressive. The report says that the company is likely to price the 5-seat version close to INR 13 lakh. The 7-seat version is expected to command a premium of approximately INR 2 lakh, with prices starting at around INR 15 lakh (ex-showroom).
