GAC GA8 - Motorshow Focus

Is intended to take on the imports coming into China.

Chinese automaker GAC Motor had showcased its luxury flagship, the GAC GA8 (GAC Trumpchi GA8), at the 2015 Shanghai Auto Show. The sedan is expected to be launched in the first half of 2016.

The GA8 is being positioned as a challenger to the imported C-Segment vehicles in China. It has a wide-body design and a wheelbase of 2,907 mm with a body length of over 5 meters. The luxury sedan has an elegant design with the front end featuring a massive five-slat chrome grille and horizontal strip of LED fog lamps on the bumper.

The sides get a fender vent, chrome strip on the lower doors, muscular shoulder line and a swooping roofline. The rear view sports stylish-looking LED tail lights and twin tailpipes along with splashes of chrome.

The interior has a luxurious and premium appeal with the seats gaining Nappa leather upholstery and an intelligent memory function that automatically adjusts the seats for better comfort. For the rear passengers, the temperature of the seats can be adjusted and they also have a built-in massage function. The rear passengers are also pampered with independent HD LCD screens and a DVD entertainment system.

The GAC GA8 is equipped with many systems for enhancing safety of the occupants such as Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Intelligent Driver Assist System, 360° view monitoring system, Blind Spot Information System, eight airbags, ESP (Electronic Stability Program) and Automatic Braking Assistance (AEB).

In terms of connectivity, the GA8 is equipped with a 10-inch infotainment touchscreen. Various function such as remote engine start, air conditioning and information on vehicle condition can be controlled or accessed through a smartphone app.

GAC Motor says that it has combined the "Honda lean production and the Toyota production system" in the manufacturing of its “high-end commercial car.” There is no information released on the mechanical aspect of the car yet. Those details are expected as the vehicle gets closer to the launch date.
