Ford India has invited Indian Autos Blog to its manufacturing facility in Chennai on Tuesday to be part of a "significant powertrain milestone." Top Ford India officials including Mr Michael Boneham, the company's President, will interact with the media.
Considering this is a significant milestone, these are the best guesses we can come up with today.
- Ecoboost engine rollout - Though it is too early for this operation to begin as the EcoSport is only arriving next year, Ford has started selling Ecoboost-powered cars in overseas markets. Could Ford India use its powertrain manufacturing wing to supply Ecoboost engines to the rest of the world?
- Celebration of a "x" number of engines from the assembly line - Ford's engine plant has been on full steam since the launch of the Figo. The Chennai plant was the first to get its hands on the 1.5L Duratec and Duratorq engines that debuted on the Fiesta. Ford India exports as many as 60k engines per year, and is hoping for a 50% growth in 2012. Could Tuesday witness the birth of a jubilee engine?
Ford is also providing us with a factory tour where we'll get to see how its engines are cast.
Whatever the announcement is, we'll bring you the details first. Story developing.
