Only for the Chinese market.
The Ford Edge 7-seater with 3 row of seats has made its world premiere at the ongoing Guangzhou Auto Show 2014. The stretched SUV is exclusive to the Chinese market.
To be made in China from next year by the Changan-Ford JV, the Edge 7-seater is longer than the international version but Ford has not revealed the dimensions. From the looks of it, only the rear overhang has been extended while the wheelbase stays intact.
In order to accommodate the added body length, designers have given the crossover a larger rear quarter glass panel, a more upright D-pillar (and hence a more upright tailgate) to maximize space for the third row occupants.
The rest of the design remains true to the 5-seater version. Inside, the cabin design has been carried forward save for the two extra seats at the rear.
The equipment level is also expected to be carried forward from the 5-seater which comes with adaptive steering system, active grille shutter, cross traffic alert, auto start/stop, adaptive cruise control and collision warning with brake support, Blind Sport Information System, 180-degree front camera, active park assist, handsfree tailgate, etc.
The Edge 7-Seater is powered by the 2.7-litre V6 EcoBoost turbo petrol that is said to have over 300 PS. The motor is mated to a 6-speed SelectShift automatic gearbox with paddle shifters.
