Ford is preparing massively to showcase the EcoSport mini SUV at the Beijing Auto Show that starts on the 23rd of April. Ford has announced plans to introduce four vehicles at the Beijing Motor Show, one of the them is our favorite EcoSport.
We have a strong feeling that this will not be the concept model but rather a production one. Ford has been testing the EcoSport in China for a very long time. In fact, China was the second place where the testing phase started after Brazil, followed by India.
Ford also plans to showcase range-topping Focus ST with a 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine that produces 250 horsepower. Alongside the Focus ST will be the Chinese version of the second-generation Kuga that was presented last month in Geneva. The Kuga will take on the VW Tiguan and Honda CR-V which are quite popular SUVs in China. The last and the final display car will either be the 2013 Ford Mondeo/Fusion or the Ford Flex SUV.
Going by the way Ford is campaigning about the Ford EcoSport, the company wants to make it big with this particular model. If that is the case, the EcoSport has to succeed in China because it is the second largest auto market in the world.
The Ford EcoSport will try to create a whole new segment of compact SUV in each specific markets that it is launched. For the Chinese market, Ford could offer the 1-liter EcoBoost engine. Ford is pitching the EcoSport as something that will appeal to masses, recreate what Nissan did with the Juke and Dacia with the Duster. And is there a better place to mop up volumes than in China?
