We have been closely monitoring the development of the Chevrolet Prisma as the sedan gets ready for its big day in Brazil.
Last week, GM Brazil released the first teaser of the Onix based sedan but stayed short of revealing specifications. However, media reports have been strongly suggesting since a long time that the compact sedan will be christened as the Prisma and running gear will be shared with the Onix.
Designed exclusively for Brazilian market, the Chevy Prisma will take on the likes of Toyota Etios and the upcoming Hyundai sedan based on the HB20. It is to be noted that the Onix hatchback outsells the Etios hatchback in Brazil and the sedan would try to overtake the Toyota counterpart without further ado.
The Prisma will be powered by a 1.4 litre flex fuel engine which offers 106 bhp. Power is passed on to the wheels by a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic gearbox.
Recently, the high end LTZ variant of the sedan was caught testing in Brazilian roads. The LTZ variant is stuffed with features like ABS, airbags, alloy wheels and Chevy's MyLink multimedia infotainment system.
The Chevrolet Prisma is for GM Brazil what Sail sedan is for GM India. Given that its hatchback sister Onix is a runaway success, the Prisma can start off the proceedings with confidence.
The Prisma is expected to premiere in Brazil on February 26th shortly after which it will hit dealer showrooms.
