The month of November did not see Hero MotoCorp cross the seven lakh sales market for the fifth occasion in the current fiscal. In its press release, the company stated that the industry witnessed conservative sales off-take during the previous couple of months owing to issues like increase in insurance costs before the festive season and overall lowkey market sentiment. However, sales picked up in the last few days of the festive season.

Hero MotoCorp reported sales of 610,252 units of two-wheelers for November 2018 as against 605,270 units in the corresponding month last year. In comparison, the company registered 7,16,059 unit sales in total in October 2018, crossing the seven lakh sales mark for the fourth time in the current fiscal.

Last month, the company commenced the nationwide retail sales of its new 125cc scooter, the Destini 125. Hero MotoCorp's first and only scooter to feature an idle start-stop-system (based on Hero’s revolutionary i3S technology) is a part of Hero MotoCorp’s strategy to compete against Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India in the scooter market. The company plans to take on its former partner by expanding its scooter portfolio to six models in 8-12 months.

As part of the same strategy, India’s largest two-wheeler brand will launch the Maestro Edge 125 in early 2019. The Maestro Edge 125 will be targeted at the younger audience, and thus it would feature sharper styling as compared to the Destini.

Hero MotoCorp also plans to target buyers in the premium segment and has lined up four bikes in the 200-300cc segment. The company has already introduced the Xtreme 200R in India while the Xpulse 200 and the XPulse 200T are months away from the market. The XPulse 200T is a road-biased motorcycle while the XPulse 200 will be aimed to take the beaten path.
