Tata Motors is close to launching a performance-focussed variant of the Tiago. Dubbed the Tata Tiago JTP, IAB understands that the new model will be a significantly more affordable option than the Maruti Baleno RS and the Volkswagen Polo GT TSI. It will be produced at the company's manufacturing facility in Sanand, Gujarat, with almost all components sourced locally. The racier versions of the Polo and Baleno get imported engines which push their cost up significantly.
Tata Motors has confirmed to IAB that it will introduce the hot-hatch this festival season. The new model has been developed JT Special Vehicles, a 50:50 joint venture of Tata Motors and Coimbatore-based Jayem Automotives.
The Tata Tiago JTP will feature a honeycomb mesh upper grille and lower grille, a new hood with air scoops, smoked headlamps, and a bolder bumper. In the side profile, the hot-hatch will have red mirror caps, updated fenders with faux vents and larger 15-inch alloy wheels. The rear-end will feature a black roof spoiler, twin exhaust tips, and an updated bumper. The interior will have an all-black colour theme with red accents on the air vents, leather upholstery, and sport pedals.
Powering the Tata Tiago JTP will be an updated version of the Nexon's 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine. It will output a maximum power of 110 PS at 5,000 rpm and a peak torque of 150 Nm between 2,000-4,000 rpm. The motor will come mated with a 5-speed manual transmission with gear ratios optimised for high performance. The hot-hatch will ride on a stiffer suspension, will have a lower ride height and thicker rubber.

The Tata Tiago JTP is expected to cost approximately INR 7 lakhs (ex-showroom). This will undercut the Baleno RS (INR 8.47 lakhs, ex-showroom, New Delhi) by a significant margin.
