It is being reported by Autocar India that Skoda Auto India has launched a new entry-level trim of its Superb sedan to attract upgrading owners of the Rapid, Octavia, VW Vento, and VW Jetta. Called the Skoda Superb Corporate Edition, the basic variant is priced at Rs 23.49 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

The new Skoda Superb Comfortline is based on the Style variant and is currently not for sale to the general buyers.

The 2018 Skoda Superb Corporate Edition is based on the Style trim. It's available with a TSI petrol engine and a manual transmission. The new entry-level model has been launched in the 'Candy White' paint shade only. While it is based on the Style variant, it misses out on the optional DSG automatic transmission, and the Metallic Brown and Business Grey colour options. These omissions have led to a price reduction of Rs 2.20 lakh.

The new entry-level model offers the same equipment as the Style variant, which includes full leather upholstery, xenon headlamps, panoramic sunroof, and an electrically-adjustable driver's seat. Even the engine specifications remain exactly the same. Powering the most affordable variant of the Superb is a 1.8-litre, turbocharged petrol engine that produces a maximum power of 177 bhp at 4,000 RPM and a peak torque of 320 Nm at 1,450 RPM. The engine comes mated to a six-speed manual transmission. Sales of the 2018 Skoda Superb Corporate Edition to the general buyers is likely to start at a later stage.

Skoda Auto India will be leading the Volkswagen Group's India 2.0 project that involves an investment of 1 Billion Euros. A highlight of this project is the MQB A0 IN platform for new small cars along with the local production of the 1.0-litre TSI turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine. This 1.0 TSI belongs to the same family of engines as the 1.0-litre MPI motor that powers the Volkswagen Polo hatchback and Ameo sub-4-metre sedan.
