Following its premiere at the 2017 GIIAS in Indonesia last August, Daihatsu is once again showcasing the DN Multisix MPV concept at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show today.
The MPV measures 4,310 mm long, 1,720 mm wide, 1,695 mm tall, has a wheelbase of 2,620 mm and 250 mm of ground clearance. It is slightly larger than the Toyota Avanza mid-size MPV (or Daihatsu Xenia). Its styling is influenced by Daihatsu's next-generation design theme it shares with other concepts, featuring sleek LED headlamps that flow into a Honda-esque large grille, aggressively sculpted bumper with gloss black and red highlights, suicide doors for rear occupants, and a full-length glass roof. Designers have also integrated typical SUV cues into the exterior styling.
As the name suggests, the Daihatsu DN Multisix concept seats six people across three rows (2+2+2). It has a futuristic interior with a variety of displays, thin seats with hard back shells, white upholstery for the seats and dashboard, and a floating console. Other than the concept being powered by a 1.5L 4-cyl motor, Daihatsu hasn't released further information.
Given that Daihatsu is plotting a foray into India, it would not be a surprise if they considered to include the DN Multisix into the portfolio. What's more certain is its arrival in the MPV-loving ASEAN markets, where both Daihatsu and Toyota are leaders of the three-row segment. This could be pitched as a slightly more premium offering than the Avanza/Xenia, but smaller than the Toyota Innova.
