Should the born-again Lambretta scooter come to India?

Lambretta officially revealed their comeback product, the Lambretta V Series, on 3 June 2017. The Italian scooter brand is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year and was resurrected by Innocenti, its manufacturing company.

With its strong legacy in India and brands like Vespa, Royal Enfield and Jawa on a comeback trail, the Lambretta V Special could be an ideal model to relaunch the iconic Italian brand.

The new Lambretta V Special gets three engine options, a carburetted 50 cc and fuel-injected 125 cc and 168.9 cc motors. The scooter range gets LED headlight, LED taillamp, LED indicators and a 12 volt charger. The LCD instrumentation gets Bluetooth connectivity. An integrated glove box, side & main stand and luggage hook are standard. The scooter is available with a fixed as well as flex front fender (V Special Flex).

The Lambretta V50 Special has a single cylinder, air cooled, 49.5 cc mill producing 3.53 PS of power at 7,500 rpm and 3.4 Nm of peak torque at 6,500 rpm.

The Lambretta V125 gets a 124.7 cc mill producing 10.19 PS of power and 9.2 Nm of torque. The Lambretta V200 Special has a 168.9 cc powerplant producing 12.10 PS of power and 12.5 Nm of torque.

Brakes include a 220 mm front disc and a drum setup in the rear. Both the Lambretta V125 Special and Lambretta V200 Special get 220 mm disc at both ends. The smaller engine scooter gets CBS while the flagship offering gets ABS. The scooter has been designed by Austrian design studio Kiska which works with KTM and Husqvarna.

The Lambretta V Special measures 1,900 mm in length, 690 mm in width and 1,130 mm in height. The scooter has a seat height of 770 mm and a 6.5 litre fuel tank.

Prices will be announced closer to the launch later this year in Europe.
