Built exclusively at Mazda's plant in Japan.
Following its world premiere at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show in Detroit, the all-new 2016 Fiat 124 Spider has made its debut in European specification at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. The 21st century model arrived nearly 50 years after the original model's introduction at the Turin Auto Show in November 1966.
Designed at Centro Stile in Turin, Italy, the all-new Fiat 124 Spider is essentially the Italianised iteration of the fourth generation Mazda MX-5 and is built alongside the same at Mazda' Hiroshima plant.
In Europe as well as in the Middle East and Africa, the 2016 Fiat 124 Spider is powered by the 1.4-litre MultiAir turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 140 hp and 240 Nm of torque. It's worth noting that this is the first time that this engine is being used in a rear-wheel drive vehicle. Power is sent to the wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission. With this configuration, the Fiat 124 Spider can reach from 0-100 km/h in 7.5 seconds and hit a top speed of 215 km/h.
Exterior features include LED headlamps, LED daytime running lights, LED tail lamps with body colour insert, "power domes" on the bonnet and first generation Fiat 124 Spider-inspired "seagull" section of the rear fenders and sharp horizontal tail lamps. Interior features include three-guage instrument cluster display with the rev counter positioned in the middle, Fiat Connect 7.0 infotainment system with a 7-inch touchscreen display and 9-speaker Bose premium sound system.
The 2016 Fiat 124 Spider will be available in two trim levels: 124 Spider and Lusso (Luxury). 16-inch alloy wheels, engine start button and Keyless Go function, leather steering wheel, cruise control, MP3 radio with USB port and four speakers and four airbags will be standard. The Lusso trim level benefits from 17-inch alloy wheels, Premium Silver roll-bars and front pillar, chrome-plated twin tailpipe, fog lights, lower dashboard and instrument cluster hood with stitching details, leather seats and automatic climate control system.
The 2016 Fiat 124 Spider will go on sale in the UK in Q3 with prices starting below £20,000.
