Fourth-gen Prius is yet to go on sale worldwide.
Indian Autos Blog can report that the fourth-generation 2016 Toyota Prius, which was revealed a couple of months ago (September 2015) will have its Indian premiere at the Auto Expo 2016, scheduled to take place in the first week of February 2016 in Greater Noida.
Speaking to Indian Autos Blog about the all-new Prius at the FAME ECO India Tour, which took place in New Delhi today, Mr. T.S. Jaishankar, Deputy Managing Director for Toyota Kirloskar Motor, said - "We'll be displaying the Prius at the Delhi Auto Expo".
Based on the TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform, the 2016 Prius promises an 18 percent improvement in the fuel efficiency and emissions department, thanks partly to the 1.8-liter four-cylinder DOHC engine which has a 40 percent thermal efficiency, comparable to a diesel engine. On the powertrain front, the 2016 Prius makes 97 bhp at 5,200 rpm and 142 Nm of torque at 3,600 rpm from its naturally aspirated engine. An electric motor which sources power from a nickel metal hydride battery contributes a further 71 bhp.
The body of the 2016 Prius is now 60 percent more rigid thanks to laser screw welding, a cylindrical frame and strong adhesives. It measures 4,540 mm in length, 1,760 mm in width, 1,470 mm in height and 2,700 mm in wheelbase.
