Will be imported as CKD kits for local assembly at Hindustan Motors’ Plant.
According to Autocar India, the latest Mitsubishi Pajero Sport will go on sale in India from mid-2017. It was unveiled in Thailand on August 1, featuring a striking design, premium interior and a long equipment list.
The 2016 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is the second model in the global range to feature Mitsubishi’s “Dynamic Shield” front end. It features chrome elements in the front fascia, sleek headlamps and LED daytime running lights, and a sporty bumper design. The rear end gets a striking pair of taillight clusters and a re-profiled lift gate.
Inside, the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport comes with a premium interior that is a step up over the outgoing model. It features a new 4-spoke multifunction steering wheel, a flowing center console with sculpted silver accents, and leather upholstery.
As for equipment, the Thai-spec Pajero Sport is offered with a touchscreen infotainment display, optional “Multi-Around” camera system, and electric parking brake (first time in a Mitsubishi). Safety features include Forward Collision Mitigation system (FCM), Blind Spot Warning system (also a first on a Mitsubishi model), an Ultrasonic misacceleration Mitigation System (UMS) and seven SRS airbags.
Under the hood is a 2.4L MIVEC turbo diesel engine paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission (first for a Mitsubishi model). Power is sent to all four wheels via a Super-Select 4WD-II four-wheel drive system with a new Off-road Mode and Hill Descent Control (both firsts in a Mitsubishi). Mitsubishi claims that the new Pajero Sport is 17-percent more fuel efficient than the outgoing model. It also achieves a CO2 emissions rating of under 200 g/km.
With CKD kits manufactured in Thailand, the next generation will, reportedly, be assembled at the Hindustan Motor Finance Corp’s (HMFCL) Tiruvallur plant in Tamil Nadu.
