A senior official of Tata Motors Indonesia has told Oto.detik.com that the subsidiary has expressed its interest to the HQ in showcasing the Tata Nexon compact crossover SUV concept at the upcoming IIMS (Indonesia International Motor Show) 2014, scheduled in September.
Tata Motors is betting big on the Indonesian market, having launched products there last year, it could use the IIMS to gather the public opinion about the upcoming SUV. Tata has assured us that it brings out the production version in India in February 2016.
The Tata Nexon concept which made its first public appearance at the Auto Expo in January and was also showcased at the Geneva Motor Show in March, previews the Indian automaker's future mini SUV. The design concept is bestowed with LED headlamps, smoothly arching roofline, 17-inch alloy wheels and double sliding door system.
The futuristic interior gets a wide instrument display with floating centre console. In a recent interview, Tata's head of design, Pratap Bose stated that the production version of the Nexon would remain true to the concept's design.
Based on the Vista platform that also underpins the soon-to-be-launched Tata Bolt, the mini SUV measures 4.0 m in length, 1.73 m in width, 1.6 m in height and has a wheelbase of 2.54 m.
The concept is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine that generates 110 PS and 170 Nm of torque. The motor is claimed to deliver a fuel economy of 17.6 km/l when mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission. Top speed stands at an impressive 180 km/h. Also on offer is an electric 4WD system.
The production version of the Tata Nexon is expected to rival the Ford EcoSport, Maruti XA Alpha and the VW Taigun.
