Volkswagen unveiled the India-ready (not India-bound) high-powered VW Golf GTD at the Geneva International Motor Show. It is powered by a 184-hp version of the new EA288 TDI turbocharged, four-cylinder diesel engine that complies with the EU-6 emissions standard.
Launched back in 1982, the GTD variant of the seventh generation golf is the most powerful variant ever made. The engine develops 184 hp and 380 Nm of torque that is available from 1,750 rpm. It is paired to a six-speed manual transmission, that permits it to accelerate to a top speed of 143 mph (230kph) with a CO2 emissions standing at 109g/km. The combined fuel efficiency in the European test cycle is 50mpg (21.2 kpl).
The GTD variant is distinguished cosmetically using smoked LED taillamps, dual exhaust tips plated with chrome, LED-illuminated license plate, 17 inch GTD alloy wheels with 225/45 rubber, lowered suspension, side skirt, rear diffuser and a roof spoiler.
The changes on the interior include sport seats with a tartan pattern, black headliner, a sport steering wheel, stainless-steel pedals and foot rest, a GTD shifter grip, and a new instrument cluster. White ambiance lighting, automatic climate control, park assist, and touchscreen infotainment system are standard features on the GTD.
Customers can buy the GTD in "Tornado Red”, “Black”, and “Pure White” paint jobs. Sales in Germany start this June with prices starting from 29,350 Euros (20.9 lakhs)
