New York Live – 2014 Dodge Durango offers more style
As a toddler, those wheeled machinery fascinated me even before I knew what they’re called as! So here I’m, petrolhead by birth, Mechanical engineer by qualification and automotive reporter by profession!
The 2014 Dodge Durango SUV took the center stage at the Dodge stall in the New York Auto Show.
The 7 seater SUV incorporates some very noticeable design changes like the new headlights and LED taillights. The taillights are now connected and feature a total of 192 LEDs.
Dodge is introducing the 2014 model with a 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine that makes 290 horsepower and and 352 Nm of torque, and a 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine that produces 360 horsepower and 528 Nm of torque.
Both engines are paired to a segment-first eight-speed automatic transmission with a rotary shifter that has apparently induced a more refined drive and a nine percent leap in fuel efficiency.
The new front fascia has a floating signature Dodge crosshair grille. It is accessorized with projector headlamps that are optionally available with LED daytime running lamps.
The car is available with either a 5-inch or a 8.4-inch touchscreen that comes with Uconnect Access and navigation with 3D mapping. UConnect is a very functional infotainment system that can do handsfree calls, has Wi-Fi capability and can stream audio tracks through Bluetooth or a USB port.
A Blu-ray / DVD rear entertainment system with new dual 9-inch screens on the seat backs of the driver and passenger can also be installed.
The new three-spoke steering wheel comes standard with paddle shifters. Captain’s chairs are available on the second row with a pass-through center console that makes travel easy between the seats.
A limited edition model is being launched with leather seats, heated seats, heated steering wheel and standard 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen.
The 2014 Durango is offered with a choice of seven wheels featuring 18-inch and 20-inch wheels with finishes ranging from silver painted to polished aluminum to Hyper Black.
The vehicle has over 60 safety features including Auto crash notification/911 call button, adaptive cruise control with stop function, forward collision warning with collision mitigation. Capless fuel fill is standard.
The new Durango is offered in ten body colors, seven different wheels and nine different interiors.
