The 2013 Toyota Corolla (project A140), according to media reports that emerged in recent times, asked us to expect something different.
Though we didn't know what to expect, a recent report on Car Magazine SA claims the 2013 Toyota Corolla's design will based on hints from the recently showcased NS4 plug-in hybrid concept and the China-specific Yundong Shaungqing concept.
A Brazilian media report claimed that in early 2012, Toyota officials from India, Thailand, Brazil and USA were shown the next generation Toyota Corolla in Japan. Toyota insiders also said that the new Corolla will be strikingly new without any remnants from the current generation Corolla.
Since the design will be inherited from the NS4 plug-in hybrid concept and the Yundong Shaungqing, expect the new Corolla to have sharp edges and dynamic character lines. The design could change radically as there is eccentricity in the design of both concepts.
The Yundong Shaungqing's side profile mixed with the NS4's roofline and daylight opening could lead to drama in design. Could the Corolla signal the start of a new generation in design and styling for Toyota?
The new Corolla will be launched in the U.S first as it is the largest market for the nameplate. Toyota Kirlosakar Motor will try to bring the new Corolla into India as soon as possible as the Cruze has assumed segment leadership and is threatening to pull away.
We expect Toyota to show the new Corolla next year and launch it in India in 2014.
