The car made its Chinese debut in Jan 2010 and became an instant hit by clocking a consistent 25,000 units per month. Exports to Latin America started in 2011 and currently the Sail enjoys the distinction of being the best selling export market car from China.

Chevrolet Sail obtained a very good 4-Star rating in the CNCAP crash tests and comes equipped with usual safety features like ABS, EBD and airbags.

The preparation of the 1.3 litre XSDE diesel motor has started in India as early as June 2009. The modifications to the powertrain are done with Indian conditions in mind such as lower engine speed range compared to Europe and the physical parameters like humidity, temperature and pressure for design considerations are taken at an altitude of 4,000 ft.

The diesel engine has an injection pressure of 1400 bars and generates 78 PS power and 205 Nm of torque and has an ARAI certified economy of 22.1 Kpl. Also on offer is a 1.2 litre petrol that is good enough for 86 PS and 113 Nm.
